Venice – Florida Highway Patrol has reported that a serious accident occurred Saturday afternoon involving a bicyclist and a sedan.
The crash began as an 81-year-old man from Englewood was driving a sedan on US 41 in the left lane and approaching the intersection with Laurel Road.
As the sedan was approaching the intersection, a 65-year-old man from Venice Florida was riding a bicycle and began to head eastward across US 41 in an attempt to cross US 41.
At 4:07:00 PM, the Venice man rode his bicycle into the left lane and entered the path of the oncoming sedan.
The front of the sedan impacted the bicyclist severely injuring him.
First responders transported the man to an area hospital where they listed him in critical condition.
FHP has stated that the accident remains under investigation.
