RUGGLES TOWNSHIP — A commercial tractor-trailer driver from Maryland suffered serious injuries Saturday during a crash with a pick-up truck on U.S. 224 in Ruggles Township.
According to the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 11:37 a.m. near mile post 5.
Troopers said a green 1995 Chevrolet pick-up driven by 50-year-old Mark Rohr of Nova, was westbound on U.S. 224. Rohr slowed to make a southbound turn into a private driveway.
A blue 2019 International LT625 commercial tractor and trailer drive by 39-year-old Shaun Johnson of Waldorf, Md., was westbound behind Rohr.
The International and the Chevrolet collided in the road. The Chevy traveled off of the south side of U.S. 224. The International and its trailer traveled off of the north side of the road and struck a tree.
Rohr was not injured, according to the patrol.
Johnson sustained serious injuries and was taken by Firelands Ambulance Service to University Ashland Samaritan and was later flown by medical helicopter to Summa Akron City Hospital.
Troopers were assisted on-scene by the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Ruggles Troy
Volunteer Fire Department, Firelands Ambulance Service, The Ohio Department of

U.S. 224 was closed in both directions for approximately one hour. ODOT maintained traffic control using temporary traffic signals for approximately three and a half hours while the scene was cleared by Auer Towing and Recovery.
