CHICO, Calif. – A Chico man was in the Butte County Superior Court on Tuesday to face charges for breaking into two homes over the week and stabbing one person repeatedly with a pair of scissors in one of the burglaries, Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said.

The District Attorney’s Office requested that the judge remand Evans to the Butte County Jail on a no-bail hold until his next arraignment date tomorrow.
Chico police were called at around 8 p.m. on Saturday by a person who lives on one side of a duplex home on Fair Oaks Circle in Chico. The person told police that he was not home at the time, but he saw through his surveillance system was detecting an intruder in his home.
Police said they arrived to find the person’s door open, as well as the door of the other duplex.
Evans burst out of the second person’s home soaking wet and bloody, Ramsey said. He charged toward officers with a cell phone in his hand and was asking to be shot, Ramsey said.
Officers eventually safely detained Evans without injury.
At the same time, there was a 911 call from the second home, Ramsey said. Officers went inside and found a person there badly wounded in his bathroom.

During the stabbing, Evans and the victim fell on the toilet which caused water to be spayed everyone, Ramsey said. Then, Evans picked up the toilet tank lid and used it to further beat the victim.
The scissors were determined to be taken from the first home, Ramsey said.
The victim was taken to Enloe Hospital, where he is expected to recover but remains there with critical injuries, Ramsey said.
Evans was taken to the Butte County Jail and after he smashed his head into the emergency intercom mounted on the wall of his cell, Ramsey said. He was taken to Oroville Hospital for multiple sutures in his forehead.
